Assemble at the airport and depart for Irkutsk, a city on the Angara River in eastern Siberia, Russia. Upon arrival, check into hotel and rest for the day.
Depart for Listvyanka village which is situated on the Baikal shore 67km away from Irkutsk city. We’ll visit the Baikal Limnological Museum. Here you will learn a lot about the unique flora and fauna of the lake. If you don’t suffer from dizziness, you can also enjoy the virtual diving to the bottom of the lake to see it more closely. Then, we proceed to Nerpinarium, where you’ll set your eyes upon the unique and cute Baikal seals (nerpa) – the only freshwater seal. After lunch, we’ll head to the Church of St Nicholas, the unique example of the 17th century wooden architecture. After which, we will take the chairlift to the Chersky Rock with its panoramic view of the lake.
Today starts with departure to and exploring the frozen lake on board of hovercraft. Travelling on board of the hovercraft (Khivus) which can easily move on the transparent ice of the lake if the best way of exploring Baikal. We are going to make a stop at Peschannaya (Sandy) Bay, famous for its caves, covered with splendid icicles. This is the unique chance to explore the fascinating caves of the lake Baikal full of frozen diamonds inside, something you won’t be able to do in summer. Lunch on the ice trying the traditional Siberian tea with local herbs. Then we will depart to Khuzhir, the central village on Olkhon Island.
Excursion around the northern end of Olkhon Island with Russian 4WD jeeps UAZ, driving on the ice of Baikal lake. Here you will have time to wonder around the ice caves and grottos located at some of the small island of Maloe More (Small Sea), to visit the picturesque rocks “Three Brothers” and the final point of the tour – Cape Khoboy. The transparent clear ice, grottos and marvellous icicles, frozen coastal rocks and ice caves will leave you amazed at the spectacular sight. In the afternoon we will return to the village and enjoy some free time before dinner to admire the breath-taking panorama view of the last sunset on the lake. Today, depart for Irkutsk and go on a city tour of the historic districts of the city, the place where Irkutsk was founded by the Cossack Yakov Pokhabov, its ancient churches, cultural sites and monuments. The tour continues with the visit to the Historic Memorial Decembrists’ Museum (house-museum of Decembrist Sergei Volkonsky), where you are going to hear many stories about the life of Decembrists of Siberia. You will also see the central market with local products.
Today, depart for the airport to take our flight back home. We hope you enjoyed your trip with our company and we look forward to seeing you again for your next trip.
