Upon your arrival, begin with a
visit to Cataract Gorge Reserve
and walk on the historic
suspension bridge over the South
Esk River for stunning views of
the unique natural formation.
Next, jump aboard a sightseeing
Cataract Gorge Cruise to admire
the scenic riversides and lush
bushlands of the Cataract Gorge
that lie just downstream from
Launceston. Admire views of
Kings Wharf and the Seaport as
you glide along Launceston’s
riverfront, then sail beneath the
spectacular cliffs of the Cataract
Gorge, enjoying unobstructed
views from the purpose-built
cruise ship. After a relaxing lunch
(at own expense), visit the
Tasmanian Gourmet Sauce
Company, which was established
over 20 years ago and offers a
unique experience to visitors.
You’ll be guided through the
delicious range of products, such
as a variety of berry fruit sauces,
chocolate sauce and savour the
award-winning chutneys,
mustards, pasta sauces and jams.
This morning, proceed to Sheffield,
a town which proclaims itself the
Mural Capital of Australia. There are
over 60 huge murals around town
along with an annual Mural Fest,
where the winner’s masterpiece
will be added to the collection.
Thereafter, head to the Tasmanian
World Heritage Wilderness Area
and its jewel, the Cradle
Mountain-Lake St Clair National
Park. Immerse yourself in the
picturesque landscape and
abundance of wildlife. Go deep
into the Tasmanian forest and
experience the solitary wilderness
of waterfalls, glacial lakes,
rainforest, wildlife and unsurpassed
beauty of this World Heritage-listed National Park.
Discover many walks throughout
the rainforest – catch your breath
as you first glimpse the craggy
outcrop of majestic Cradle
Mountain towering above
sparkling Dove Lake plateau. Seize
the opportunity to take a short
stroll around Dove Lake as you
take in views of the powerful and
majestic Cradle Mountain (weather
permitting). On the return to
Launceston, visit Ashgrove Cheese
Farm for some famous Tasmanian
cheese. View the cheesemaking
and maturing area, then taste and
buy a range of cheese, which
include exotic flavours of wild
wasabi and native pepper berry.
Start the day with a visit to
Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary,
home to Tasmania's largest 24/7
Wildlife Rescue Service with a
team of volunteers dedicated to
help protect endangered species.
Get ready for your up-close
encounter with the iconic
Tasmanian Devil and other native
animals. This is an amazing
opportunity to learn more about
the unique wildlife and hand-feed
the animals that roam free.
Continue on your journey to the
picturesque historic town of Ross
– make sure to try the famous
scallop pies at Bakery 31 and
explore the town. Have a photo
stop at the historic Ross Bridge,
the 3rd oldest bridge still in use in
Australia that was built by
convicts in 1836. Next, depart for
Hobart, the capital and most
populous city of Tasmania.
Thereafter, proceed to Mount
Wellington. The 21-km drive to the
summit passes through
temperate rainforest to sub-alpine flora and glacial rock formations,
ending in panoramic views of
Hobart, Bruny Island, South Arm
and the Tasman Peninsula.
Note: Mt Wellington will be replaced with
Mt Nelson if it is closed due to any icy
conditions or snow.
Set off to the World Heritage–listed
Port Arthur Historic Site for an
in-depth look at Australia’s penal
history at this former convict
colony. Explore and see the ruins
and restored buildings, as well as
the surrounding natural beauty of
the Tasman National Park on this
day out. On your way to the site,
you’ll be able to enjoy stunning
views of Hobart’s countryside from
your window. Upon arrival at Port
Arthur, enjoy an introductory
40-minute guided walking tour to
familiarise yourself with this
expansive site before exploring at
leisure. After exploring the port, hop
aboard your vessel, sit back and
relax as you make your way to view
the Isle of the Dead. On our return
to Hobart, we travel via the historic
township of Richmond. As we
arrive in the late afternoon, you will
have time to meander the streets,
stop for a coffee and walk across
Australia’s oldest bridge still in use –
a convict-built sand-stone bridge.
This morning, visit the Museum of
Old and New Art (MONA), known
as much for its underground
labyrinth-like architecture as for
its art collection. Owned by
entrepreneur David Walsh,
experience Australia's largest
private collection of art.
Experience the heavenly and the
controversial as you explore
ancient, modern, contemporary
art and thought-provoking
exhibits. Thereafter, visit
Salamanca Place, a historic docks
area of Hobart lined with a row of
simple Georgian-era sandstone warehouses built in the 1830s.
These mellow north-facing
buildings that once stored grain,
wool, whale oil, apples and
imported goods from around the
world have been converted into a
plaza of restaurants and shop,
with pubs, artists, galleries, craft
shops and nightlife, adding to the
relaxed atmosphere of the place
after sundown. Next, enjoy some
free time strolling through the
exquisite Royal Tasmanian
Botanical Gardens. These gardens
are home to the largest collection
of mature conifers in the
Southern Hemisphere and it also
has the only subantarctic plant
house in the world.
Enjoy the day at your leisure and
explore the streets of Hobart at
your own pace. Rich in art, culture
and history, the city pulses with
vibrancy. Alternatively, you may
wish to join an optional tour to
Bunny Island or a Tasman Island
coastal wilderness cruise at your
own expense.
Spend the morning at your leisure
before boarding your homebound
flight. We hope you enjoyed your
vacation with our company and
