Assemble at the airport and depart for Madrid, the central capital of Spain.
Once you arrive, head for a drive to León. Set on a city tour and take in the sights of León Cathedral, Plaza del Grano and the historic Old Town. Enjoy your dinner before we head to the hotel for a good night's rest.
Drive past Lugo and be amazed by the spectacular sight of the Roman Walls of Lugo, a 2-kilometre stretch of fortification walls built in the 3rd century that still remains largely intact today. After which, travel to the pilgrim city of Santiago de Compostela, capital of Spain’s Galicia region and also the final destination of the Way of St. James pilgrimage route. Enjoy the day at your leisure and explore the beautiful Old Town of Santiago on your own. You may wish to join an optional excursion to Rias Baixas during your free time.
Embark on a city tour to visit the famed Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, a marvellous work that combines various architectural styles with an incredible La Gloria portico that features 200 figures with reference to the Apocalypse, among which includes one of Saint James welcoming the pilgrims. Tour the surrounding Praza do Obradoiro and Praza das Praterías as your local guide explains about the pilgrimage route and elaborates on why thousands of pilgrims make the long journey to arrive at this sacred site.
Drive along the Asturian coast and arrive at the Tower of Hercules, an ancient Roman lighthouse that graces the entrance of the LA Coruña Harbour. The lighthouse dates all the way back to the late 1st century A.D., and is one of the oldest Roman lighthouses in the world that remains in operation till today. On arrival in Oviedo, we shall meet our local guide who will guide us through the medieval old town, the site of the Gothic Oviedo Cathedral with its 9th-century Holy Chamber.
Enjoy a scenic drive as you make your way to Covadonga, an important site in Christian history. A narrow valley anticipates the spectacular site of the Holy Cave of Covadonga, drawn between ridges of limestone rock and surrounded by forests, dedicated to the Virgin of Covadonga. Enroute to Santander, we will visit One of the few buildings designed by Gaudí, El Capricho de Gaudí in the town of Comillas on the Northern Spanish coastline.
Depart for Bilbao, a tough, industrial metropolis surrounded by green mountains. Make a pit stop at the Guggenheim Museum – an extraordinary, titanium-clad construction that seeks to challenge assumptions about art and architecture; then make your way to the Vizcaya Bridge for some outstanding pictures. Depart for San Sebastián, well known for its gastronomic “pintxo” culture. Pintxos are the Basque version of tapas, an informal way to enjoy dinner while socializing and drinking with friends. Your local guide will introduce you to the Authentic Pintxo Experience in the old town of San Sebastian. Enjoy a Funicular Ride, the most popular way to get to the top of Monte Igueldo. Thereafter, rest for the night in Pamplona.
Commence your city tour of Pamplona, best known for its legendary Running of the Bulls Festival (Fiesta de San Fermín). Be wowed by the magnificent sight of the ancient City Walls and the bustling ambience of Plaza del Castillo, the heart and soul of the city where you will find markets, tournaments and even the occasional bullfighting event taking place. Depart for Zaragoza, home to some of the most beautiful historical sights in the world. Revel in the majestic architecture of the Nuestra Señora del Pilar Basilica, reputed to be the first church in history that is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Then, meander round the vast, open spaces of Plaza del Pilar and the neighbouring Plaza de la Seo, and admire the breathtaking architectural masterpieces that surround them.
Today, make your way to Barcelona, the cosmopolitan capital of Spain’s Catalonia region. Browse the bespoke boutiques of the sophisticated La Roca Village, and peruse the shops within this stylish and spacious complex housing luxurious designer brands offering attractive retail prices.
After breakfast, spend the morning free at leisure till it is time to transfer to the airport for your flight home.
We hope you enjoyed your vacation with our company and we look forward to seeing you again on your next trip.
