Assemble at the airport and enjoy your flight to Paris.
Make your way to Rouen – the capital of the Normandy region, famous for its connections to Joan of Arc, who was burned at the stake in 1431. The first stop is the Saint-Ouen Abbey Church, a magnificent Gothic church with exquisite stained-glass windows and a renowned Aristide Cavaillé-Coil organ. Drop by Place du Vieux Marché to snap some shots of Église Jeanne d’Arc, the site where she was martyred. Next, walk along the streets to the Parliament of Normandy and see The Gros-Horloge, as well as the majestic Notre-Dame Cathedral. Then, pop by the Église Saint-Maclou, the best example of Flamboyant-style Gothic architecture, and Aître Saint-Maclou.
After breakfast, go an orientation tour of Honfluer, a gorgeous little harbour town on Normandy’s coast that also sits on the mouth of Seine River. Stroll along Vieux Bassin, one of the most spectacular sites in this town, particularly for its beautiful setting as the reflection of the colourful row of houses shimmers in the water and the moored boats dotted alongside. Marvel at the sight of Saint Catherine’s Church, the oldest and largest surviving wooden church in France with a separate bell tower dating back to the 15th century. Then step foot into the Old Town of Honfleur and spend some time wandering through the narrow, cobbled streets, art galleries, boutiques, and traditional craft shops – or how about trying their regional specialty cider and pancakes! Drive on to Bayeux in the afternoon with your local guide for a glimpse of Bayeux’s unique treasure – the Bayeux Tapestry, which is now housed in the Bayeux Tapestry Museum. The long tapestry illustrates the Norman invasion of England and the Battle of Hastings, which has miraculously been preserved since its creation. Next, see the Notre-Dame Cathedral that is built in Romanesque style with Gothic features, which was also the site where Harold II made his oath to marry William the Conqueror’s daughter in order to take the crown of English – this broken oath eventually led to the Battle of Hastings. Note: The Bayeux Tapestry Museum visit is subject to the Museum’s opening hours. In the event of ongoing special events (i.e., Christmas and New Year), our group may not be able to enter the museum and there will be no replacement.
Make a trip to Mont Saint-Michel in the morning, a small UNESCO World Heritage site located in an island off the coast of the Lower Normandy region in northern France. Visit the spectacular Norman Benedictine Abbey of St. Michel located at the peak of the island, artfully surrounded by winding streets and monastic buildings. After lunch, visit an oyster farm in Brittany’s oyster capital, Cancale. Take this opportunity to learn all about oysters and sample a taste of the famous Cancale oysters. Afterwards, continue to the ancient walled city of Saint-Malo, a port city that was once home to interesting characters like pirates and explorers and famous for its butter cookies.
This morning, get a look at Saint-Malo Cathedral and Château de Saint-Malo, originally a symbol of ducal and royal power which now houses a museum covering the long maritime history of Saint-Malo, the WWII Occupation as well as the destruction and reconstruction of the town. Spend the afternoon exploring at leisure, or you may wish to join an optional tour to Dinan, a medieval town surrounded by tall ramparts that stretch for three kilometres. Thereafter, drive to Nantes, a city located on the banks of Loire Valley. Optional: Dinan City Tour
After breakfast, check out the creative grounds of Jardin Des Plantes and view the Nantes Cathedral. As you walk to the Bouffay District, you will pass by Château des Ducs de Bretagne, the impressive symbol of Nantes, as well as Basilique Saint-Nicolas and Place Royale. Thereafter, visit the magnificent Château de Chambord, the most famous of the Loire Valley chateaus. Commissioned by King Francis I and imagined by the great Leonardo da Vinci, the Chateau de Chambord is the largest and most majestic castle of the Loire. It is a symbol of the French Renaissance and of the power of a passionate ruler who revered the arts. The Chateau and its grandiose architecture rival that of the Palace of Versailles. 60 of its rooms are open to public, and you’ll also get to enjoy a collection of 4,500 objects d'art displayed in gorgeous, refurbished apartments. Spend the night in Loire Valley.
Breakfast, Chinese Lunch Begin your Paris adventure with a guided tour of the city – take in the sights of Champs-Élysées, Place de la Concorde, Louvre Museum with its iconic Louvre Pyramid, and the Palais Garnier Paris Opera House. Stop at the Arc de Triomphe, a famed monument erected in honour of the soldiers who fought in the Napoleonic Wars. Then view the cultural icon of Paris – the Eiffel Tower, before heading over to Galeries Lafayette – the biggest department store in Paris for your long-awaited shopping spree (subject to store’s operating hours). You may also wish to join an optional scenic Seine River cruise or a Moulin Rouge Show Optional: Seine River Cruise/Moulin Rouge Note: Galeries Lafayette is closed on Labour Day, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve.
Today, we shall undergo the requisite PCR test together as a group. After which, travel to the city of Reims – the ‘unofficial capital’ of the Champagne region. Embark on a Champagne tour which brings you to sample the different champagnes that are home-grown in this region, before indulging in a splendid lunch paired with a glass of champagne. Next, drop by Place de la République to view the ancient Roman arch Porte de Mars. Then, enjoy a leisure stroll along the streets for a glimpse of the Town Hall, Place Royale and Reims Cathedral, the traditional location for coronations of the kings of France since the 13th century. Right next to the Cathedral, you will also get to admire the beautiful architectural masterpieces Palais du Tau and Bibliothèque Carnegie.
Enjoy a free day of leisure for some shopping or sightseeing at your pleasure. Take the time to explore other hidden gems of Paris, or pay a visit to one of the many museums in the city. You may wish to take up some recommended activities, such as an optional full day Paris tour that includes a walk through the Montmartre neighbourhood, more shopping at Galeries Lahyette and a visit to the Notre-Dame Cathedral.
